Let’s talk about the not-so-glamorous truth. In the legal world, burnout is practically baked into the job description. The late nights, the always-on availability, the “I’ll sleep when the trial’s over” mindset… we’ve all been there. But here’s the twist: what if the strongest move you made this week was saying no?

Last weekend, I practiced what I preach.
I had to make a choice: honor my energy or override my own boundaries for an invitation I didn’t truly have the capacity for. So, I said no. (Gasp!) And you know what? As soon as I hit send on that polite decline, the weight lifted. I felt lighter. Freer. Suddenly, the rest of my weekend opened up—and I was actually excited for what remained.

Ironically (or maybe not), this mirrored a breakthrough moment one of my wellness coaching clients had last week. They were wrestling with overcommitment, trying to “power through” weekend exhaustion just to meet perceived expectations. Together, we explored what I call Boundaries with Backbone—and how rest isn’t just a need, but a non-negotiable strategy for sustainable success.

Rest isn’t weak. It’s resistance.
It’s a quiet rebellion against a culture that tells us our worth is tied to our output.
