From Paralegal to Burnout Coach: Why I Had to Hit Pause to Find Purpose

Let me take you back to 2021.

I was knee-deep in disaster relief loan processing during the height of the pandemic, working 60+ hour weeks as a paralegal. I had a solid reputation, a secure position, and a calendar packed with deadlines and virtual meetings. From the outside, I was doing “the work.” But on the inside? I was unraveling. Burnout didn’t knock politely—it bulldozed.

It showed up as chronic moodiness, anxiety, and a delightful little thing called peri-oral dermatitis. (Highly recommend zero stars.) The high-functioning, people-pleasing professional in me kept pushing until I couldn’t anymore.

So, I hit pause. And that pause turned into a full-body reset. I traded the courtroom hustle for the quiet, steady work on my backyard farm, the glow of two monitors for the glow of morning sunrises and failed veggie crops. And in the peaceful silence, I heard something I’d been ignoring for years:

You don’t have to sacrifice your well-being for your work.
You’re allowed to reroute.

That’s when KLR Paralegal began to evolve into wellness coaching. What started as a legal consulting and support services business transformed into something deeper:

🌿 A space for high-achieving women to work well and live well.
🌿 A mission-driven coaching practice helping legal professionals and other high-performers recover from burnout, reclaim their energy, and redefine success.


What I Know Now (That I Wish I Knew Then):

  • Burnout is not a personal failure—it’s a systems failure.
  • Perfectionism, overfunctioning, and “I’ll rest when it’s done” are survival tools, not personality traits.
  • Recovery isn’t a luxury—it’s a responsibility.
