According to a recent article in the ABA
Journal, law is the most stressful profession. Based on
an analysis by the Washington Post of data from the
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, being a lawyer is the
most stressful occupation in the U.S.
Stress affects all people in all professions, however, in
the legal field the adversarial nature of the practice,
demanding schedules, and heavy workloads
significantly contribute to increased levels of pressure
and stress.
There is no secret formula to balancing work, home,
life, hobbies, and commitments. And we certainly can’t
learn how to do it all from a book, seminar, or an
article. Since we are all unique creatures, we must
each discover what works best for us. And remember,
this may look different at various periods, seasons, or
phases of life, it is definitely not a once-size-fits-all kind
of thing.
As part of the Paralegal Practice Series, I’ll be diving
into various strategies to help others develop selfcare
and wellness habits. These ideas will help to manage
stress, enhance productivity and provide tools to
diffuse intense situations and collaborate more
effectively.
